We've been looking for the perfect developer to join our team, and in the process have met a lot of candidates who are starting out on their journey to being web developers. We all remember how hard it can be to get started and felt bad that we couldn't offer them a role, so we've decided to create an internship position.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for anyone that is passionate about code and looking for that opportunity to get started. You could be a designer that is looking to convert to writing code, someone retraining from another career, or a recent graduate looking to get a foot in the door. Whoever you are, you need to show us that you see yourself writing code for the rest of your life – that this is a passion, not just an opportunity.

What we can offer

You’ll be joining a small, close-knit team and getting a real taste of agency life. You will be to working on live websites from the get-go, in a low-pressure, low responsibility capacity learning how to build completely bespoke WordPress themes the right way. You’ll be writing PHP, HTML, SASS, JavaScript – all that good stuff.

We believe there’s no better way to learn than by doing – so our approach to internships is to give you some guidance on where to start, allow you the space to try and learn for yourself and offer support when and where you need it. You’ll have the opportunity to be mentored from people highly experienced in making great websites. You will be expected to be able to be self-directed able to manage your own time well.

Requirements

While this is a role for someone starting their career as a web developer, that does not mean you should be without experience. We want to see people who are interested in writing code, particularly PHP, and have made positive moves towards becoming a great developer.

Note:

We prefer people who are interested or have experience in PHP based sites. While we love a single page application our work is primarily in the LEMP stack and we have the most to offer to potential interns in that area.

Minimum requirements:

Passionate about code.
Basic level HTML and CSS and preferably some jQuery or Javascript.
A natural affinity to, and interest in working with computers.
Higher-level education, or some experience in a design agency or in a similar professional environment.
Excellent communication and problem solving skills, and the ability to work well in a team.
Able learn code fast.
The ability to manage your own workload, prioritising and juggling various jobs at a time.
At the moment we are working remotely, but once it is deemed entirely safe to return to work we would prefer it if you were able to work from our Falmouth office. However we will consider remote working for exceptional candidates, or people who are unable to travel to work. If you are working from home you will need to have access to a good internet connection.

Bonus Points

Be able to show us some websites you’ve built.
Experience with WordPress.
Some experience with PHP.

Internship

The internship will be for 6 months, salary dependent on experience (we adhere to https://www.livingwage.org.uk/ guidelines on salary).
