We know that a website's performance is only as good as it's hosting. This doesn't just mean a high performance, green servers or top-level security; the best hosting is only as good as the support that's given.
Hosting
Our hosting package ties in a lot of services into a single, manageable price. When you are buying hosting from us, you aren’t just buying a resold package; you are buying your site to be on a fast, secure hosting platform. At the moment, this is Cloudways, but while with us, if the need arises we will move, upgrade or alter the hosting environment.
Venn Managed Hosting includes:
- Managed Hosting. As anyone who has dealt with site hosting before, getting support can be painful – people don’t know you, your site, and run you through basic – time-consuming checks. With our hosting, we will do all of that for you, giving you free, unlimited hosting support from people who know you, your site and what your business needs to provide.
- Security, via iThemes security (2FA and more). The license for the pro security plugin is included in the hosting fee.
- Your hosting is only limited by the given specs of storage and bandwidth, no shady visitor number limits
- High-quality, Application-specific hosting, tuned to get the best performance for the product’s technical stack. We will monitor and update hosting with new services as required.
- Daily backups. Retained for a week (we also offer secondary, off-site backups as part of our security package)
- Free, unlimited hosting support. Any support required for the hosting platform is without charge. This includes
- Updating PHP versions
- Improving and reviewing caching infrastructure
- Managing server capacity and load
- A staging environment, rolled up and down as required, without charge
- Uptime monitoring. We receive notifications when sites go down
- Security scanning. We receive notifications when plugins or sites become insecure
- Limited out-of-hours support. We have emergency contact information for out-of-hours or weekend support when we will jump on any critical issues – as always, without charge.
You are free to use your own hosting package and can offer some of the above features and licenses at a standalone cost, just ask.
What we don’t do
- We don’t manage emails
- We don’t use servers with shared IP pools, or share your site with unknown websites, only ever our clients.
- We don’t gather data or market you to any other services
- We don’t manage any hosting other than in our own setup, as described above
- We don’t guarantee 24/7 support as standard. If you need this, let us know, and we can set it up for you.
Green Credentials
We use a service called Cloudways, which runs Digital Ocean. These two services are essentially a user interface layer for accessing data, which comes from datacentres. The servers we use are based in datacentres in London, provided by a company called Equinix. These London datacentres are powered with 100% renewable energy, meaning the majority of energy consumption by your site will be powered by renewable energy. On top of that, these datacentres have ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 50001 accreditation – both of which are related to energy efficiency and environmental responsibility.
We, unfortunately, don’t have the information for the companies that provide the user interface layers – but the majority of your energy consumption comes from the datacenter, and that is 100% renewable, from what we understand. On top of that Equinix as a whole is powered by 95% renewable energy worldwide, with a commitment to get to 100%… which is pretty impressive.
