Recent Identity: We are Shining
We've been fans of Wildworks unforgettable site-specific experiences for nearly 20 years now, so when they came to us with a chance to work on a new project we were delighted. We Are Shining is an 18-month journey of events, sharing, imagining and storytelling, which takes its inspiration from Pytheas's mapping of Belarion – 'The Shining Land' – which we now know as Cornwall nearly 2500 years ago.

The identity system is built around the idea of sketching and journalling, bringing in marks and symbols representing the variety of organisations and creators involved in the project. The logotype was drawn with a chisel, representing the mark-making on the world around us we all take part in just by existing, and Cornwall's mining history. Keep your eyes on their socials for epic and insightful happenings.

We share our building with other fantastic businesses (looking at you @strangercollective and @hormannarchitects), and an office space has just come free. It's 15sqm with a big window, a great location and some good stuff thrown in. By good stuff, we mean its own private wifi network, all bills included, a communal kitchen and a parking space. Plus it's just a few doors up from @espressini and @nude.canteen

Recent(ish) Work: STEM Cornwall.

We were delighted to work with the team at Cornwall Council on another project to help open young people's eyes to the world of opportunities STEM provides. The programme aimed to capture people's imagination right at the start of their journey into science and tech by getting the attention of their parents, guardians and educators. It was a tricky balance; finding something that grabbed the grown-ups, but was also exciting for the potential future minds of our already impressive digital and scientific economy. The outcome is a retro-futuristic wonder-lab of colour, invention and detail wrapping up a solid identity that is functional and flexible.

In the last 15 years, us folks at Venn have seen Cornwall grow from the home of potential to a hub of great happenings, and we're proud to be a part of a project that encourages the next generation and helps keep it moving forwards.

NEW WORK: Greenbank Hotel - A new website and iden

NEW WORK: Greenbank Hotel - A new website and identity bump for Falmouth's favourite waterside hotel.

The @greenbankhotel has been a fixture for us, as mostly Falmouth residents, for years now. From after-work cocktails to Sunday roasts downstairs, visiting family members staying there to cosy client meetings. So we were delighted when we got the opportunity to continue our work with the team there and build an all-new, content-managed website. The hotel is over 400 years old, and in its time it's heard its fair share of epic adventures and tall tales, and the site puts story and wonder at the forefront. We love this one, and want to give a big thanks to the Greenbank team for their bravery and dedication towards making something special.

Happy Friday!

As the weekend is upon us, we thought we would do a quick round-up of some things that have been inspiring the team recently.

Zander: We were recently in Bilbao and took our 8-year-old to the @museoguggenheim. A beautiful experience, full of inspiration - with some of the art there making it into a moodboard for a project that's in progress.

Ceri: I spotted a Falmouth Design students work in the Creative Conscience Awards, @megmardondesign. This work struck my eye with its brilliant concept around emotional durability, oh and not to mention the beautiful execution!

Frann: I recently stumbled across an article about the band ‘Lankum’, whose album was shortlisted for the Mercury Award this year. Referred to as the ‘OK Computer’ of Irish Folk, the deeply apocalyptic sound of ‘False Lankum’ was a real revelation for me and has been spinning on the vinyl player ever since. Any fans of folk horror film classics would enjoy giving it a whirl.

Liam: “The Panther’s Tale” by Walton Ford. The tale of a panther’s daring escape from Zurich Zoo in 1934.

I love the evolution of this painting in the hands of tattoo artist Luke Jinks (@lukejinks). The ability of “The Panther’s Tale” to transcend time and medium, from the classic painting by Ford to the reinterpretations by Luke Jinks, showcases the enduring power of art to captivate and engage viewers across generations.
